What is Dorn Method?
The Dorn method is a form of massage that is used as therapy for misalignments in the spine, neck, and other joints. It has been in use since the 1970’s when it was first developed in Germany. Although it is most commonly practiced in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, it is growing in use and has made its way across the Atlantic Ocean to North America.
There are not many clinics that focus specifically on the Dorn method, but a growing number of massage therapists have mastered the method, and even some chiropractors are starting to look into it as an additional method of treatment. The method is pretty easy to learn, and so there are many websites with video tutorials on how to use the method on yourself or a friend. This has led to many people using the Dorn method in the comfort of their own homes. Those who do not feel that the web videos are enough for them to have mastered the technique can attend training seminars that are hosted fairly often by trained practitioners. The method can typically be mastered in two to five days at a small workshop, whether or not you have any previous massage experience.
There is a common theory that uneven leg length causes misalignment in many parts of the body and can result in various health problems including pain in muscles and joints, and perhaps even psychological stress. The uneven leg length could also make walking uncomfortable and could throw off your physical balance. By aligning the spine correctly and evening out the leg lengths, one can possibly alleviate many of these negative symptoms. This is due to the fact that the human body is close to symmetrical, and therefore many people believe that this symmetry should be encouraged as much as possible to promote total health.
The Dorn method uses movement to move the muscles, rather than moving the muscles with external movement. Proponents of the theory believe that medicines such as chiropractic are difficult to use with a high degree of success for this problem because the muscles tend to be “stubborn” in their tenseness. The Dorn method focuses on using motion of the patient’s body to relax the muscles, and then move them gently back into their correct placement.
Typical treatment involves having the patient swing the leg or arm to relax the muscles while the practitioner gently massages the unbalanced areas with his thumb and hand. The treatment can take anywhere from just a few minutes up to near an hour, depending on the needs of the patient. It is usually a relatively painless process, as patients are advised to stop if much pain is detected.
If you suspect that your leg length is out of whack, you can ask your physician or chiropractor to check for you. If your suspicions are confirmed, then it might be in your best interest to try out the Dorn method. Whether you decide to learn it yourself, have a friend learn it, or go visit a trained practitioner, you will definitely experience the benefits of having a balanced body.

I own a chiropractic clinic, and I think you are spot on. This is my first time reading your blog, but I will likely be back. Keep up the good work!
Hello, Thanks for your article. I like to see aupport for this great Method as there is a lot of pros and cons on the net.
One thing however I want to clear: Dieter Dorn’s wish to share the knowledge of this Method made me develop it further and establish an information platform including videos.
The intention is to clarify any controversial believes and help many people by making them aware of the importance of structural balance and the need for self help.
Please do not encourage people to try the Dorn Therapy (only a part of the Method!) on others without hands on training (or proper distant learning using more intensive material than the Youtube videos). Unfortunately there are many out there that do not understand the importance of a correct application of the Dorn Method and if done the wrong way it will not be beneficial for the patient nore for the reputation of the Method.
But we want to share and encourage people to pratice the Dorn Method on themselves and others not as therapy but a Self Therapy meaning to use and show the Dorn Method self help exercises that aim to simulate the actions during a Dorn Therapy session.
Hope you understand what I want to say.
I would love to meet you and share more about the Dorn Method and Therapy possibilities one day. I would appreciate your feedback and hope we can even cooperate in some way in the future.
Blessings Thomas
