What is Feng Shui?

Do you want to have more energy, happiness, harmony, health, and wealth flowing in your home? These are some of the current promises of the ancient techniques of Feng Shui. It is the study of a location and the objects within it to determine the energy flow and balance.

The first time you heard of Feng Shui may have been in relationship with a Chinese garden, or other Chinese area. You watch them carefully tending to the locations of plants, water features, rocks, and even the open areas. Within the area everything is carefully placed to give the area the highest possible Qi.

What is Feng Shui’s power and what is Qi? Qi, pronounced CHEE, is the life energy force. This energy can be either positive or negative. The practitioners of Feng Shui work to first determine the natural positive Qi of an area, even before a building is constructed on a site. If the area is filled with negative energy, they will likely recommend the area be avoided as a living or office structure.

The Feng Shui consultant can then examine building plans, or floor layouts and give recommendations for modifications to enhance the positive energy flow of the building in relationship to the geographical site. This can include rotating the building slightly, modifying the floor plan, or using additional windows in certain portions of the structure.

On an existing structure, a Feng Shui consultant will examine the geographical area, the layout of the home, and the floor plan. After examining all of the physical traits they can give recommendations for furniture placement and the use of balancing objects to improve the energy flow in the home. The balancing objects can include live plants, crystals, rock structures, and other decorative items.

Feng Shui is based upon many factors including astronomy and geomagnetism. While examining your home a practitioner will study many different factors, including looking for bodies of water in the area, such as lakes, rivers, and the ocean. They will watch for large physical objects made of earth and stone, like hills, and mountains. All of these objects of nature play a role in the flow of energy in your geographical area, and will affect the flow of energy through your home. By determining the flow of energy in the area, they can then start seeing how the flow of positive qi energy will flow through your home, and how to limit the intrusion of the negative energy.

Is Feng Shui just a mythical practice, or is it based upon truth? What is Feng Shui’s importance to you? While it is hard to prove the importance through scientific evidence, the Chinese have been practicing Feng Shui for over 3000 years. The Western world has seen a rapid growth in the practice over the last 50 years with many people reporting dramatic changes in their lives. The best answer, if the simple re-arrangement, and addition of a few items into your home can potentially change the energy from unbalanced and negative, to harmonious and positive, isn’t the effort worth it? Explore the power of this ancient Chinese method, and see what it can do for you, firsthand.
